Family Promise of NewRock
Family Promise of NewRock is an effort among local churches to respond to the problem of homeless families in our community. Epiphany is an important part of this group’s leadership. We hope that you will participate too!
What is Family Promise of NewRock? Briefly, we are committed to being good stewards of the resources that we already have, in order to offer hospitality to homeless kids and their families.
At Epiphany, what will it mean to take part in this ministry? Well, along with 12 other local congreagations, we will open our doors once a quarter to homeless kids and their families. For these folks – normally no more than 14 people – we’ll provide a hot meal in the evening, some activities for the kids, keep someone on hand overnight (in case of emergencies), and feed them a cold breakfast.
During the day, kids will attend school or daycare, while the parents spend time at a day center. At the day center, they will receive job training, take showers, do laundry, get financial counseling, and search for jobs.
Family Promise is remarkably successful in helping homeless folks get back on their feet. The affiliate in Augusta, Georgia had a 100% success rate last year, meaning every family found work and stable housing!
If you’d like to get involved in this important ministry of mercy, please contact Tim Carey (770-929-1709), Julie Sisson (678-230-8332) or Pastor Nathan (770-483-6222), or come to our next meeting March 9, 2010 at 7:00 pm, right here at Epiphany in Classroom 6.
