HICOR (Habitat Interfaith Consortium of Rockdale)

Finally, after five (yes, 5) years of work the infrastructure at the site in  Conyers has been completed, approved by the City and signed off by the proper authorities.  That means that Habitat can finally begin building the first of the eventual 32 homes.  This process has been long and, on occasion, very frustrating. But all of that is behind us as we join hands to         accomplish the purpose that has been the goal for so many years and of so many people.

To accomplish this end, it will be necessary to raise more funds.  Sorry to be so blunt, but all of the volunteers you could possibly want can not build a house without the necessary materials.  As a step or two in the direction of raising those funds, HICOR (Habitat Interfaith Consortium of   Rockdale, of which Epiphany is a major part) will be sponsoring two events on October 23rd, 2010.  The first will be a 5K road race / 1 K road walk at 9:00 AM.  We need lots of runners, more than last year.  Joshua Beckman won his age category last year.  We also need a few volunteers to assist in   setting up and administering the race. There will be a dinner/dance in the main hall beginning at 6:30 PM. A catered meal, good music for dancing (or listening pleasure), a silent auction of donated items and a visit by “The King” despite the fact that he is getting on in years, is slated for that evening’s entertainment.  There were plans for having him last year, but the great 100 year flood interfered.  He lost all of his equipment, “zoot” suits, music, etc. and nearly lost his house.  But now he has said he will join us that night.

There will be more information in bulletins and posters will be placed in prominent places.  Make plans to attend some of these functions and help to push the HICOR bank balance to the point where the work can begin.  Currently they have about 55% of the funds needed.  Give them a hand now and they will soon be able to ask you to lend a hammer as the building takes place!

Keep your eyes and ears open for further information or you can ask Travis Bryan or Bill Schroeder for more information.  Let’s make this a banner year in support of Habitat.
